Next door, in the Honegem nature reserve, walkers will find a typical Flemish landscape with grazing land, ponds, woods, bogs, aligned tree plantations, footpaths and wild hedges…

If you prefer cycling, there is a wide range of routes available following the banks of the rivers Schelde and Dender, through unusual landscapes punctuated by wild plants and flowers.

To experience what the area has to offer, cycle through surrounding villages, pause at a pretty wayside chapel, a historic church, have a drink in a local café, stop at the wine maker’s “De Kluizen” and wander through the vineyard, close to the Affligem Abbey, or enter the workshop of potter Hilde De Bruyn who, in a twist of her hand, creates unique pieces with bold and original shapes.

Art and history lovers will be fascinated by Aalst’s rich architecture and cultural heritage while Ghent and Brussels are also within easy reach.
